Third Grade 2016-2017!

The 2016-2017 school year is officially underway! We have been busy establishing routines and learning procedures in our classroom! We developed a class mission statement and have begun leadership positions (class jobs)!

We also did a community building activity and learned about kindness and the power of our words! Once toothpaste comes out of the tube, you just can't get it all back!

We've also begun establishing a reading community! This group really seems to enjoy reading! Way to go!

Some of our work has also made it to the hallway! We're off to a great start!

Fairy Tale STEM!

As we wrapped up our fairy tale writing unit, we incorporated math and science into the genre! Students have been completing fairy tale STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) challenges!

First up was the three pigs! Using only toothpicks and sticky dots candies, groups had to construct a house for the pigs that would withstands the wolf's powerful blow (my blow dryer)!

Students were really successful!

Next up, the Billy Goats! They needed a raft to safely float down the river! Students could use only straws and rubber bands!

Junior Achievement

This spring we were privileged to receive the Junior Achievement Program! We learned about community zones, businesses, money, and more! The curriculum pairs so well with our economics unit!  Check out the fun activities!

A huge thank you to our parent volunteer for planning and preparing these engaging lessons and activities! Students had a blast!

Happy Earth Day!

Today we celebrated Earth Day! One of our activities included decorating grocery bags with messages about caring for our planet! Students were so excited about the thought of a shopper picking up their bag to hold groceries! What a great way to reach others and spread a positive message!

Perimeter and Area Fun!

Yesterday, we practiced finding perimeter and area of composite figures using our floor tiles for much larger models! Students really enjoyed moving from station to station to practice these math skills!
