Plants!

We are having lots of fun studying plants in science! We started our unit outside so we could observe plants! A botanist is someone who studies plants.

Then it was time to grow some plants of our own! We "planted" some bean seeds in wet paper towels and patiently waited!

After just a few days, growth was evident! Students were very excited!

When the sprouts grew longer, we added them to a pot of soil so they could continue to grow!

We did another experiment to learn about stems! Celery is like a stem and when placed in water with red food coloring, you can see how the stem carries the water and nutrients up to the leaves!
When we cut into the stems, you could see the tiny red tubes that carried up the liquid!
We are really enjoying this science unit and watching our plants grow! Just look at them now!

We are writers!

We've been building our writing community and have reviewed many important writing skills! After reading The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown, we set out to write the important things about each of us! At the end of the week we shared and celebrated our final pieces!

We can't wait to begin our narrative unit next week!

2015-2016 Welcome!

Wow! Our school year is off to a great start! We've been building a strong community and have begun our academics! So much learning is taking place in room 19! Take a look at what we've been up to to kick off the new school year!

Together, we developed our class mission!

In reading, we've learned how to select "just-right" books and we've been building our stamina during read-to-self!

In math, we're learning about place value and rounding numbers!

Thanks for keeping up with our learning! It's going to be a wonderful year!
